Skoot: The easiest, most secure way to share filesSkoot is composed of a hosted server, a desktop client, a web client, and an account administration site. The Web Client and Account Administrator are accessed over the Web using a standard web browser over standard Web ports. The desktop client also communicates with the Buffering and Synchronization service using standard web ports. Further, the desktop client only makes outbound connections to the service removing the need to modify firewall settings to allow inbound connections. All systems involved use HTTP as the application-level communications protocol.

Client ApplicationsSkoot communicates with client applications over the Web. To perform tasks, client applications send requests (HTTP messages) over the Web to the Skoot service by calling the Skoot API. After processing the request, the Skoot service sends a response message to the client application. Client applications may be associated with a Web application such as a Java applet, or stand-alone programs such as the Skoot desktop and Web-browser clients. |
